Read the FAQ below to learn how it works, who it’s for, and what kind of results you can expect.
Does Dave Tutors Math offer in-person and online tutoring?
Yes, we do offer online tutoring and in-person tutoring in Central Arkansas, although the majority of my students prefer online. During COVID, I had to tutor online, and I discovered there were many advantages. Not only is it convenient for the student, but I am able to help more students.
Regardless of which you choose, my personalized tutoring sessions are tailored to each student are conducted by me to ensure an excellent learning experience for students, as well as a wise investment for parents.
Why choose online tutoring for learning math?
Online tutoring is flexible and convenient. A tutor and student can meet anytime, anywhere through a reliable internet connection and a video meeting source, such as Zoom. Students stay in the comfort of their home, and families can easily hop in on the Zoom session for updates and collaboration with the tutor. It works great for everyone, and many students are more comfortable online.
How does online tutoring work?
Dave Tutors Math uses Zoom, a common online meeting platform. Once the session is booked and paid for, a Google calendar invitation will be sent to a student and parent’s preferred email address with a Zoom link included in the description. All a student needs to do is have the Zoom app downloaded to any device, click on the link at our scheduled time, and join the meeting!
To keep students engaged, screen sharing of worksheets, slides, high-interest books, or interactive instruction will be used. A preferred curriculum or workbook will often be used during tutoring sessions. In such cases, a student can purchase and download a digital version for the tutor to use in tutoring sessions.
Is Dave Tutors Math for advanced students or struggling students?
Both. If a student is struggling, I’ll address their learning gaps so they can catch up and get ahead. For students who already excel in math, I’ll work with them to expand their math skills and help them achieve their greatest potential. And if a student is “doing OK” when I know they could do much better, I can engage and motivate that student to reach new heights.
What age students do you work with?
I work with students in grades 6-12, as well as freshmen through seniors in college.
What kind of results can we expect?
Students who consistently tutor with me enjoy a transformative learning experience and make huge strides in the classroom. I strive to improve student performance on standards-based tests in 10 sessions or fewer.
How often does a student need tutoring sessions?
I recommend 2-3 times a week until learning goals are met and parents are satisfied with what their student has accomplished.
What happens during the initial assessment?
I understand that assessments can sometimes feel stressful for students and their parents. That’s why I take a personalized and engaging approach to each assessment. I start with an initial ‘discovery call’ to learn about a student’s math background and needs, as well as getting input from the student’s parents. Next, assuming there is a good fit for my services, I’ll conduct a Zoom call with a student and their parents. This allows me to build rapport with a student and their parents for setting learning goals and expectations.
I conduct both a verbal and written assessment to identify a student’s strengths and areas for improvement, as well as to gain a better understanding of how each student approaches and thinks about math. More importantly, my assessments don’t feel like a test. I use interactive methods to ensure a student feels comfortable and confident.
What does Dave Tutors Math cost?
Dave Tutors Math provides premium value by combining a superior learning experience with an efficient structure that keeps costs low. I recommend a tutoring session 2-3 times per week. Attending less frequently will slow results and attending too often could lead to student burnout. Pricing varies by subject and geographic area.
